Communities in MSIport.com

MSI portal offers home and visibility to communities active in materials chemistry. Presently it hosts the "Materials Science International Team" (MSIT) - global network of experts in materials constitution and the experimental & computer thermodynamics of materials.

38th Annual MSIT Workshop

International Seminar on the Evaluation
of Heterogeneous Multicomponent Equilibria

21 - 26 January 2024

Schloß Ringberg, Tegernsee, Germany

organised by:

MSI- Materials Science International Services GmbH, Germany
Hampton Thermodynamics, UK
Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung GmbH, Germany

 organising team:

Dr. Svitlana Iljenko, Dr. Andrew Watson, Dr. Frank Stein, Dr. Martin Palm

The MSIT Annual Workshop will be held on the 21st-26th of January, 2024 in Schloß Ringberg in the beautiful Bavarian Alps, the spiritual home of the MSIT®.

The Workshop will kick off with the traditional 'Get Together' in the Gartenzimmer in Schloss Ringberg on the evening of Sunday the 21st of January and will finish at lunchtime on Friday the 26th.

The Workshop will comprise usual group work and presentations by participants.

The group work at the MSIT Workshop works in the following way:

small groups of 3-5 scientists write together critical evaluation of data on phase diagrams of a particular system. The literature for evaluation and working infrastructure are provided by MSI. In the group work there is always a knowledge transfer from the senior scientists experienced in the evaluation work to the younger scientists. The Guidelines for Critical Evaluation you can see here.

Registration to the MSIT Workshop is open for the MSIT members (no registration fee). If you have not been to one of our workshops before, and you would like to join the MSIT, please write to iljenkomsiportcom.

We are also pleased to announce that the  8th MSIT Winter School on Materials Chemistry will take place at the same time in parallel with the MSIT Workshop.

The success of previous MSIT Winter Schools has shown that there is much interest, in many countries, in learning about subjects closely associated with phase equilibria. The MSIT®, Materials Science International Team, is a network of materials scientists with much expertise in materials constitution.

For over 38 years, MSIT experts have been involved in a programme of critical evaluation of constitutional data and phase diagrams that has resulted in the publication of a series of over 62 printed volumes and an electronic database, MSI Eureka, presenting the 'State of the Art' on almost 4600 alloy systems.

The Winter Schools provide the opportunity to learn techniques that are important in the understanding of phase equilibria, thermodynamics and closely associated subjects. The lectures and hands-on training given during MSIT Winter Schools are conducted by MSIT members and invited experts.

Each year, we hope to build on the successes of the previous years in order to make the Winter School better than before. At the 8th Winter School, we aim to cover not only basic principles but to go deeper into subject areas to give as full an understanding as possible within the time available.
