This short lecture will give an introduction to ‘real’ diffusion couples. What can such diffusion couples be made of, and what can they be good for? What kind of diffusion zones can we expect? How can we learn something about equilibrium states from an obvious non-equilibrium material? And, coming also to ‘the dark side of diffusion couples’: What kind of problems can we encounter and what are Kirkendall pores?
