MSIT Winter Schools comprise lectures given by the MSIT members and invited experts on Phase diagrams, Classical and Computational Thermodynamics, and Crystallography and related applicational topics.

* For participants from Germany, the applicable VAT, presently 19%, will be added to the participation fee on the invoice.
For participants from the EU countries outside Germany, the Value Added Tax (VAT) will be zero rated, provided that the participant submits its valid European Union VAT-registration number.  If no EU VAT-registration number is supplied a Value Added Tax has to be charged that equals the German VAT, presently 19%. For customers outside the European Union the Value Added Tax is zero rated.

Participation fee includes

  • 4½ days of lectures, practical sessions and workshops,
  • comprehensive syllabus,
  • slides of the lectures for download as .pdf,
  • certificate of participation.

Payment Methods for the Participation Fee

Once your electronic registration has been received, you will receive confirmation of receipt. This does not yet represent the acceptance of your contract offer, but only informs you that your booking has been received. Registrations will be considered in the order they are received, as places are limited depending on the event. After the registration has been reviewed, MSI will confirm the registration in writing or text form via e-mail. With this confirmation your registration is legally binding. The confirmation email will include details of your registration and payment options. You will then have two weeks to pay the participation fee (by bank transfer, or credit card, or PayPal). Any bank transfer fee must be paid by the participant. We will keep you informed by e-mail about the status of your registration.

Registration is opened till 31.12.2023. Number of places is limited.

Accommodation & Meals Fees of the Castle Ringberg

Booking of accommodation and meals will be made by the organisers on behalf of the participants directly with the confirmation of your registration. The costs for accommodation and meals should be paid for at the castle, direct to the castle administration by the participants. 

The full board rate of 158.03€* per day includes a drink with each meal and refreshments during conferences. Additional beverages are charged separately. Vegetarian meals can be provided when ordered in advance. For guests from the institutions of the Max-Planck Society the net prices are charged - the full board is then 139,00€ (* - updated price for 2024).

Cancellation Policies

By registering, you agree to the MSI's General Terms & Conditions for Events and to the below Cancellation Policies 1) & 2).

1) Participation Cancellation Policy 

Cancellation should be made in writing (by letter or fax) or by e-mail. The date of the postmark/fax or the date of receipt of the e-mail is valid. A refund of participation fees (less 20% administrative processing charges) will be made for cancellations received before 04.12.2023. After the cancellation deadline of 04.12.2023, 100% of the participation fee must be paid.
Substitutes can be made but please email new delegate details when known.

2) Accommodation Cancellation Policy 

Cancellation of the booked accommodation & meals will be done by the organisers on behalf of the partcipant directly after receiving the Participation Cancellation. Please be aware that the cancellatiion policy of the Castle Ringberg is different from that of MSI GmbH for the partcipation fee. In the case of cancellation from the third month to two weeks before the start of the event, the castle administration requests a refund of 75% of the agreed price for all individual services ordered. In the case of cancellation made less than two weeks before the start of the event, the castle administration requests a refund of 100% of the agreed price for all individual services ordered.
Payment of these costs is the responsibility of the participants.
