MSIT founder member, Prof. Rainer Schmid-Fetzer has been awarded the prestigious TMS Hume-Rothery award, to complement the one that he was presented to him by the IOM3 in the UK (The Hume-Rothery prize) in 2010. Rainer follows in the footsteps of great scientists in the field of phase-equilibria and thermodynamics, such as Larry Kaufman, Y. Austin Chang and Alan Oates. The award is given 'in recognition of his seminal contributions to alloy thermodynamics and phase diagrams both computationally and experimentally' and a symposium is being held in his honour at the next TMS meeting, which will be held in San Diego, California, in February 2014. Many congratulations Rainer. It's thoroughly deserved.
